Thutmose III and the Atef Crown

This wonderful painted limestone relief currently in the Luxor Museum, is depicting kind Thutmose III wearing the atef crown. The atef crown is decorated with ostrich feathers, representing truth and justice. Observed as early as the 4th dynasty, by the new kingdom period it took on additional elements such as the ram or bull horns, the sun disk and the uraeii. The relief is from the mortuary temple of Thutmose III at Deir el Bahri.
